Nurses Want to Keep Learning!

Written by LeAnn Thieman, CSP, September 25th, 2009

tuitionNurse Retention tip: Many hospitals are offering tuition reimbursement for advanced education or degrees. In return nurses are asked to commit to working X number of years.

Continuing to learn and expanding skills and education are things that every generation has in common. I’ve learned a lot by researching this topic and continuing to learn myself.

My new keynote , What’s This Generation Coming to? teaches the traits of the four generations of nurses. One common factor…they all want more education, yet these are the dollars that are most often cut during economically challenged times.

Let’s kindly remind administration that education pays off in the long run, in nurse retention and patient care.

Nursing Shortage Going From Bad to Worse!

Written by LeAnn Thieman, CSP, September 23rd, 2009

nurseWe’ve likely all heard the prediction that we will be short 500,000  nurses within the next ten years.

So I was shocked when I read that the Department of Health and Human Services statistics say we will have 1.2 million RN vacancies by 2014! That’s just 5 years away!

Just when we Baby Boomers need the most care, we will be experiencing the greatest nursing shortages our nation has seen. We need to be forward thinkers, and not just hire  the nurses we need for today, we must look ahead and take steps now and make plans to recruit nurses and retain them.

What are you doing pro-actively to prevent a shortage in your organization? My Each One Reach One Nurse Initiative has proven ideas to recruit the nurses you need and retain the ones you have. contact me now
